4th October 2014
Windsurfing: Felixstowe Dip
Wind Direction: SW
Wind Stength: F2-4
Surf / Sea State: flat / small waves
Air Temperature: warm
Sea Temperature: warm
Weather: cloudy rainy
Max Speed: 18.16 (knots - unless stated otherwise)
Distance Covered: 3.1 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)

The wind forecast was for an early start, as rain was predicted 2.00pm and the wind switching to offshore.
Got up too late again and missed the first hour from 10am because they were on 6M and planning. Quite a few out maybe 10 sailors with several kiters. By the time I parked the wind dropped and they were all wallowing.
Stupidly I rigged 7.7 Hellcat instead of my new 8.6 Gaastra light wind beast - thinking the wind would return.
Had one run planed out then stopped. Dropped the no wind gybe - drifted up again and just made it back. Lightweight Mark and Ian seem to be going OK quite a lot but the others struggled so it was a long chat on the beach, as usual. Some new faces were about wishing and hoping - but a huge cloud came over and we realised as Mark S predicted it was game over after an hours wait. The rain came and the wind went straight off.
A dopy kiter went out on the offshore wind with the tide running out! Yep he dropped the kite and got drag out with the tide. After a long while trying to fly it - he eventually dumped it and started the long swim, but on an outgoing tide he only made the shingle bank. His mate swam out for him and looked in trouble as the tide was way too fast, so the guys called the coastguard - saw the van with flashing lights heading to the dip / golf end. Guess they were picked up later by the boat.
Def no one should sail in offshore wind - especially on an outgoing tide at Felixstowe dip - unless you want a free trip to Belgium......
